Alfred Joseph Hitchcock est le plus jeune des trois enfants de William et Emma Whalen Hitchcock. Son père était un vendeur de volaille et un importateur de fruits. Ses parents catholiques sont très sévères et le petit Alfred n'est pas ménagé. Il décrit son enfance comme solitaire, en partie à cause de son obésité.
