Après Gomorra et Reality, personne ne s’attendait à voir Matteo Garrone s’attaquer au Pentamerone, ce recueil de contes signé Giambattista Basile auquel les frères Grimm doivent beaucoup. Les costumes, les décors et la photo sont à tomber dans cette oeuvre culottée qui ose une adaptation littérale des histoires de monstres et de sorcières de Basile. Une claque d’heroic fantasy baroque à l’italienne qui soulève de nombreuses interrogations sur notre société.
