Following the supposed suicide of her brother, Grace travels to the Isle of Skye, where he used to be a priest in an isolated convent. Distrustful of the Church’s version of events, she decides to investigate on her own. Soon, as she discovers he was himself accused of murder, sacrilegious acts and her own truth slowly come to light. A religious horror movie blessed by the always mesmerising presence of Jena Malone.

Christopher Smith sets out to explore faith – as he started doing with The Banishing – and the limits of the dichotomy between good and evil. As usual, the filmmaker doesn’t forget to pay homage to the masters of the genre through a film that looks deliciously old-school but feels resolutely modern.

British director Christopher Smith first made a splash on the English horror scene with his London tube survival film Creep (2004). His career expanded to include varied genre pieces, from the British crime drama pastiche (Get Santa, 2014) to dark humour horror movies (Severance, 2006), to Medieval fantasy set in France (Labyrinth, 2012). Smith won the NIFFF Youth award in 2016 for his twisty thriller Detour.
