The movie

A book burner rekindles his love for literature and freedom. In François Truffaut’s adaptation, the dystopian world of the cult novel strangely resembles ours.

* Martin Vetterli, president of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), in situ

In a totalitarian regime where books are banned and burnt, Guy Montag, a book-burning fireman, is greatly moved by his encounter with a young woman who loves reading. She convinces him to open a book again, and he rediscovers his love for literature and for freedom. Adapted from the cult novel by Ray Bradbury, the film takes a more naturalistic and stripped-down approach. François Truffaut burns Mein Kampf as well as Les Cahiers du Cinéma in this world that could only ever be the same as ours.
