Gilliam Terry
Canada, 2005, 122'
After the death of her mother, the little Jeliza-Rose moves to an old farm with her father, a rocker heroin addict on the decline. To avoid solitude, Jeliza-Rose escapes to an imaginary world. One day she meets Dickens, a young man who spends his time in a diving outfit waiting to capture the giant shark that lives on the train tracks. On his side, Dell, Dickens’ older sister, is a sort of ghost clothed in black who hides herself under a beekeepers veil... Terry Gilliams’(Brazil, Twelve Monkeys) visual genius was necessary to represent the imaginary and poetic universe of Jeliza-Rose. With his latest movie, which he presents as «Alice in Wonderland meets Psycho», the former Monty Python member brings to life a work that is both optimistic and surrealistic, with plenty of humor and suspense.
