GRIFF THE INVISIBLE

Ford Leon

Australia, 2010, 90', Swiss Premiere

The movie

Young Griff is an office worker – a bit socially inept, to be honest. But when night falls, he turns into a masked superhero, ready to defend his neighborhood from evil thugs. His older brother Tim has recently moved into town to watch over him, but next to his eccentric younger brother, he seems rather uptight and conventional. Tim’s girlfriend Melody, however, seems to be on the same wavelength as Griff. She soon falls for him, and creates an invisible disguise for him so that others won’t make fun of him. It’s another superhero movie, but this time, with shoulder pads for fake muscles. Based on a very loose adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man, Griff the Invisible stands out through its approach, a subtle mix between Kick-Ass and a romantic comedy. As the movie announces, “Love is the greatest superpower of all...” Finally, a bit of emotion in this world of brutes!
