Jr. Richard Bates
United States, 2012, 81', European Premiere
The movie
Pauline is not a typical teenager. Not because she dreams of being a surgeon – that can happen – but because she gets an unhealthy kick out of imagining herself operating on strangers, delighting in her morbid fantasies. Her peculiar interests frighten her parents and classmates, who leave her out in the cold at home and at school. But Pauline doesn’t care. Nobody understands her and she refuses to be judged, either by her therapist or by the church. One day, the young woman decides she is ready to lose her virginity... the real weirdness can begin! Mixing up the most respectful genres, Richard Bates Jr. offers a crazy film that combines elements of teenage comedies and horror. AnnaLynne McCord plays Pauline so convincingly that she manages to exude fascination and disgust in a role that is hard to forget. Embellished by a host of actors at the top of their game (Traci Lords, John Waters, Ray Wise), Excision is a film you won’t be able to take your eyes off.
