The movie

1997 : on their BMX bikes, The Kid and his girlfriend Apple ride across the lands laid waste by the sour rains of the nuclear apocalypse, in search of drinkable water and mysterious relics known as Rubik’s Cube and Game Boy. When Apple is kidnapped by Zeus’ henchmen, the self-proclaimed leader of this dreadful no man’s land, The Kid dons Turbo Man’s jacket — his favorite comic book hero — to find the strength with which he will hunt the forces of evil and kick their butts ! Synthesizer notes supplement this retrofuturistic, post-apocalyptic comedy co-directed by Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell, that can rival with the genre’s classics. Joyfully gory and seriously nuts, Turbo Kid is an incredibly energetic film that harnesses a myriad references from the 1980s pop culture, and makes smart use of Michael Ironside’s talents. A joyous, explosive one-of-a-kind film !
