Once the most celebrated music star, French President Bird must now face low ratings in popularity. In order to save the presidency, Michel Battement, his communication advisor, summons the most representative members of the population in a secret meeting taking place in the basement of the Élysée Palace. With the help of these improvised decision- makers, he hopes to come up with an original solution to restore the President’s former glory… While the current French film industry churns out one social realism feature after another, Gaz de France stands out as a supernatural comedy that’s both strange and poetic. Benoît Forgeard frames sophisticated compositions in which the great Philippe Katerine leads a pageant of actors, each one of them just as mad as the story itself. Once the highly subversive political tone is set, the director can start taking names in this absurd and splendid narrative. And what if the powers that be actually used their imagination ?
