Tokyo Godfathers

Japan, 2003, 92'
The movie
It is Christmas Eve in Tokyo, and Gin, Hana and Miyuki, three kind-hearted homeless people, discover an abandoned baby in a pile of garbage. Using the only evidence they have found in the baby's crib -a calling card and some photographs, they start searching for the child's parents and are caught in a series of mishaps. "Tokyo Godfathers" is an adaptation of John Ford's "Three Godfathers" (1948) in which three outlaws take the baby of a dying woman under their protection, the only difference being that the story has been transposed from the American Plains to Tokyo. With his first film "Perfect Blue" (1997), Satoshi Kon demonstrated that he belonged to the best Japanese anime filmmakers. "Tokyo Godfathers" comes after another award-winning film, "Millennium Actress", and assert the huge talent of his director.
