The movie

This pseudo-documentary tells the story of Carmelo and Salvatore Marca, two movie producers and former sculptors of religious statues. In 1947, they start their own studios, Trinacria, in Palermo to beat the large Roman studios of Cinecittà on their own ground and create a Sicilian version of Hollywood. In order to do so, the Marca brothers plan to produce an epic film called "II Ritorno Di Cagliostro", featuring UFOS, mummies and Christ figures. To play the lead, they set their mind on an old star, now in decline and dipsomaniac, the great Erroll Douglass (interpreted by Robert "Freddy" Englund). Of course, their project is a complete cockup and the last straw for all of them. In this film, Ciprì and Maresco shed new and acid light on Sicily and the world of cinema. "II Ritorno di Cagliostro" was presented at the Venice Festival in 2003.
