The movie

In 1995, the New Zealand archives announced the discovery of Colin Mc Kenzie, a forgotten local filmmaker. A pioneer in motion picture technology, he would, according to the specialists, turn Méliès, Edison and Griffith into mere plagiarists. The 400'000 New Zealanders who watched the movie for the first time one evening of 1996 were thunderstruck. One is not giving away much in telling you that Forgotten Silver was just a fraud, but Peter Jackson's genius, his passion for filmmaking as well as his sense of humour and trickery, make it fun to be fooled a bit. Just imagine the kiwi taxpayers realizing their national archives had paid for a fake archival movie!!!
