The movie

Asked to play a gig, a punk rock band travels to an American countryside bar. It doesn’t pay much, but it more than covers the gas for a return trip. The situation takes an unexpected turn when the musicians witness a terrible act of brutality perpetrated by the neo-nazis that own the place. What should have been just another concert ends up being a fight for survival, as the local skinheads do not intend on letting any witnesses escape. After the brilliant Blue Ruin, Jeremy Saulnier is given a more comfortable budget to direct Green Room. The usually unsurprising coming-of-age film is given a dark twist in this story that combines the genre’s naivety with the harshness of thrillers. Aiming at revealing the scars of a society in search of its identity, Saulnier crafts an oppressing survival that delivers a particularly violent electroshock.
