The Mole Song : Undercover Agent Reiji
Takashi Miike
Japan, 2013, 130', Swiss Premiere
The movie
Shortly after graduating from the police academy with the worst possible grades, Reiji is fired. The reason ? Discipline problems. But he soon discovers that this is actually part of a plan for him to infiltrate the Sukiyakai, one of the most extreme yakuza gangs. Having to show loyalty to the mafia while staying true to his sense of justice, Reiji gradually gains the confidence of his ultimate target : Boss Todoroki. Enjoying a second wind, the hyperproductive Takashi Miike uses the energy of original manga to deliver this exuberant and flashy adaptation. With his ever-inventive staging, the Japanese director amplifies the extravagance of his story and characters : jackets with butterfly motifs, leopard-skin suits, diamondstudded false teeth and unbelievable hairstyles… Miike’s yakuzas are afraid of nothing. The filmmaker latest folly is a festival of colors and cartoon-like situations !
