The movie
Ingrid has recently gone blind. Unwilling to face her new handicap, she locks herself in her home, refusing to leave the only place where she feels safe. As soon as her husband Morten leaves for work, Ingrid takes a seat by the window, a cup of tea in hand and the radio turned on. Gradually, she is absorbed by the sounds and the world around her and soon fails to distinguish reality from her fantastical projections. For his first film as director, Eskil Vogt demonstrates a rare sensitivity in portraying one woman’s gradual alienation. The Norwegian tackles universal themes to serve into a fantastic story, using his whole bag of director tricks sprinkled with a welcome touch of cynical humour. Constantly thwarting the audience’s expectations, Blind deconstructs spaces and boundaries, resulting in a sensory experience that immerses the viewer in the protagonist’s emotional turmoil.
