The movie

Bernard Hermann’s opening music sets the tone of a grim and grotesque atmosphere in the form of a maliciously orchestrated lullaby made of pizzicati for strings, Moog synth and glockenspiels. As the film goes on, its music breaks up into sudden bursts of dissonance, harmonic stretchings and flamboyant melodies.
