The movie

One day, Marcela leaves the house to go to a fancy dress party. She will never return… We find her family one year later, on vacation in a secluded country home, trying to escape and forget this painful episode from their past. In the midst of this beautiful yet claustrophobic landscape, the journey that was meant to heal the grieving family’s wounds will only end up reopening them, becoming a real nightmare for all those involved. At first glance, one could take this film as just another horror film, conventionally playing with the tricks of the genre. However, The Crack (El Resquicio) takes things much farther, managing to immerse the viewer in the nightmarish insanity of a family incapable of coming to terms with their loss and coming apart at the seams. Carried by images as frightening as they are beautiful, this chaotic tale succeeds brilliantly in creating an overwhelming aesthetic and an unusual form of poetic malaise.
