Just when things seem quiet on the streets, a serial killer with a particular penchant for scalps makes an appearance. This is the backdrop for Frank’s story. His is the owner of a mannequin shop, but his life takes an unexpected twist when he meets Anna, a young artist who asks him to help her with her latest exhibition. Yet as their friendship deepens, Frank develops an obsession which gradually unleashes a deeply hidden longing that has long been repressed : the desire to stalk and kill... A remake of the 1980 film of the same name directed by William Lustig (President of the NIFFF International Jury in 2011), Maniac may well surprise you. Cowriters Grégory Levasseur and Alexandra Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) have paid tribute to the original in the screenplay for this violent and nail-biting film, in which the actor Elijah Wood shows us a scary side he previously revealed in Sin City. Franck Khalfoun’s Maniac caused the biggest tremors of fear at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and will undoubtedly have a spine-tingling effect on the region of Neuchâtel too !
