The movie
Teacher, widower, and father of two, Michael struggles to raise his children in the foggy seaside town of Cobh, Ireland. A difficult task when Michael‘s everyday life is haunted by grim and ghostly visions of satanical beings. Is Michael suffering from depression, or is he truly being haunted by demons? When he meets the beautiful Lena, a glowing and intelligent writer of ghost stories, she becomes a saving grace for Michael, a failed writer himself. But Lena has her own worries: namely, fighting off the constant advances of best-selling author Nicholas, a compulsive womanizer whose egocentricity and reckless borderline personality show that he won‘t be giving up easily... McPherson takes a risk in playing with genre and brilliantly succeeds, subtly aligning romance and horror film. The Eclipse demonstrates McPherson‘s fine talent for exploring the subtleties of atmosphere and character development. Here‘s a bit of tenderness amidst this hellish week... but beware of obsessions that can quickly turn into nightmares!
