The movie

In 1348, a plague is ravaging England. Osmund, a young monk, finds himself recruited to uncover the mysteries of a small, secluded village on the island. Through some strange phenomenon, the dead seem to be coming back to life… With the help of the knight Ulrich and his mercenaries, the monk sets off on the trail of a necromancer – let’s not forget that we’re in the 14th century! – who reveals herself to be the beautiful blonde Langiva. When she offers to fulfill all of Osmund’s hidden desires, the young man is torn between his love for God and the mesmerizing secrets of the village. Soon, his prayers will no longer be of use to to him… Based on a script by Dario Poloni, the screenplay writer of Wilderness (2006), Black Death takes a scathing look at religious disillusions. Terrorizing in its violently mastered suspense, Black Death lets the blood flow freely for gory cult film nostalgists, but transposes the bloodbath into a Middle Ages context. It’s as if the thirst for blood has not diminished over the centuries… So savor it!
