Mary and Max

The movie
Mary is a solitary chubby nine year old girl living in a Melbourne suburban area. Max is a middle aged autistic New Yorker. A part from their loneliness, they have nothing in common. They nevertheless will build up a magical relationship by writing to each other. Mary and Max is a marvel indeed! An old school animated film entirely made with modeling clay. The technique is breathtaking, the themes are rich (friendship, psychiatry and alcoholism), and the humour and fantasy are original. A success that places Adam Elliott – already nominated for Harvie Krumpet – among the great makers of animated movies.
