The movie

In 1 970s Bombay, a sympathetic idiot dreams of the movies and a beautiful actress. During a shooting, he stumbles on a secret that transforms his karma and costs him his life. He gets his revenge thirty years later, in another life. Everything about this film is as deliciously excessive as its wacky plot: the choreography, the acting, the costumes and the cast (a surprising parade of guest stars is led by Shah Rukh Khan, the hilarious “King of Bollywood”). The excesses are based in parody, which is the film’s main narrative mode. Om Shanti Om cheerfully singles out the aesthetic conventions of contemporary Bollywood, whilst paying a beautiful tribute to the studios’golden age.
