Combining drama, romance and fights scenes, An Empress and the Warriors has the same swashbuckling taste as films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) or Hero presented at the NIFFF in 2003. The framework of this epic film stays true to the genre: will the princess Yen Feir fall into the arms of the young druid who looked after her in the forest – and in so doing sacrifice the kingdom to corruption – or will she allow herself to be led to the throne by the Yan army general (Donnie Yen Ji-dan)? A thorny dilemma that is resolved with a lot of violins, special effects and tightly choreographed fights. In this Asian « Robin Hood », every possible effort is made to ensure a breathtaking show.
