Adrift in Tokyo
Satoshi Miki
Japan, 2007, 101', Swiss Premiere
The movie
A perpetual student, Fumiya is heavily in debt, and gets his kicks in life by smoking weed and gambling. Fukuhara turns up by surprise one night and gives him three days to pay back his debts, before giving him an alternative: if Fumiya walks him to the Kasumigaseki neighbourhood where the police station is, he will get one million yen. Punctuated with unlikely encounters, Satoshi Miki’s road-trip through Tokyo is a light and funny tragedy filmed with an unequalled intimacy. He also gives us a beautiful range of actors, with the pan Asian star Joe Odagiri and the cult actor Ittoku Kishibe disguised for the occasion as a completely moronic birdman.
