Having confronted Kira, « L » - the upholder of the law beyond Good and Evil in both Shusuke Kaneko’s Death Note movies, is back on duty. He has twenty-three days to save the world, which is threatened by a terrorist organization. Even if he is just as autistic and brilliant (and still has a sweet tooth), this time « L » leaves his investigation room in order to start a crusade against evil together with two orphans. After the huge hits The Ring and Dark Water, Hideo Nakata acquired the Death Note franchise. Paradoxically, he has moved away from pure fantasy towards a strong dose of science fiction in the James Bond vein. The result is a smart and efficient thriller that is also inventive and touching.
