The Bothersome Man
Lien Jens
Norway, 2006, 95', Swiss Premiere
The movie
Andreas by chance finds himself in a strange city where his arrival seems to surprise no one. Everything is ready: job, clothes and apartment are waiting ! Quickly, he realizes that something is not right in this all too perfect world, sterile and childless, where the main preoccupation is setting up ones apartment and its interior design. He understands that he aspires to something better than this dull existence. So he tries to leave the city, but this is where his troubles begin, because this place is without exit… In The Bothersome Man, the imaginary universe painted by Jens Lien is only perfect on the surface. All one has to do is scratch a little bit in order that the apparent polished happiness shatters. With very cold and dry Nordic humor, the filmmaker offers us a variation on a totalitarian universe described in Brazil in 1984. To boot, Jens Liens sprinkles his film with a touch of absurd and horrific humor which makes his work an absolute must to discover.
