Santo VS the Vampire Women

Fernando Manuel San

Mexico, 1962, 89'

The movie

In Mexico the “Lucha Libre” (free-style fighting) is a cinematographic genre in itself since the 1950’s. The emblematic figure of this cinema, El Santo, is a wrestler with a colorfully spotted style and a crusader for justice against wrong doers. (A double function that allows the economy of only one costume.) The first film of Lucha Libre to draw international attention, Santo Vs Las Mujeres Vampiros, imposes El Santo as a unavoidable icon of Hispanic cinema.
