Shazam ! First appearing in 1939, « Captain Marvel » remains for the connoisseur one of the best comics of all time. Adapted for the big screen in 12 episodes from 1941 onward, the series again experienced unsurpassed success. With the simple pronunciation of the word Shazam – that awakes in him the super powers of Salomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury all together – Billy Batson becomes the « the world’s mightiest mortal ». He saves the planet from the claws of the demonic Scorpion, ready to steal from five archeologists the lenses that they unearthed from Siam, in order to bring them together and therefore create a weapon whose strength has no equal. Presently regarded as one of the best comedy’s from Marvel, Tom Tyler never the less has a handicap: his weak voice. Which is why he was only allowed to speak one page of dialogue… in a total of 216 minutes in the film!
