Abar The First Black Superman
Packard Frank
United States, 1977, 84'
The movie
Despite that he is an example of an accomplishment for the black American community, the Doctor Kincade is a victim of racism by his white conservative neighbors. When his young son is assassinated, the good doctor sees red and decides to strike back. He persuades his big body guard, Abar, to swallow a magic potion of his own making. This potion transforms Abar into a superman whose worse enemy is social injustice. A little known gem from the blaxploitation that allies this cinematic genre with political militancy.
