War rages between the police force and the triads in Hong Kong. Ming (Andy Lau) and Yan (Tony Leung) are two brilliant cops with an undercover life; Yan has been selected to infiltrate the local Mafia, and Ming is the mole the triad has chosen to infiltrate the police. The fact that both sides are unaware of this is the promise of an elaborate and gripping cops-and-robbers thriller. The series "Infernal Affairs" was a major hit at the box-office and is considered as a masterpiece in Hong Kong cinema; it was critically acclaimed and even compared to the "Godfather". By consecutively making two masterpieces, "Infernal Affairs" and "Infernal Affairs II", whose action takes place ten years before the first episode, directors Alan Mak ("A War Named Desire") and Andrew Lau ("The Stormriders") have set new standards for action movies.
