Much like the Ring series, Chaos is rooted in the film-within-the-film formula so dear to Nakata. Indeed, the plot evolves around filmmaking and illusions. Kuoda, a derelict and complete loser, must fake a kidnapping in order to salvage the marriage of one of his clients, Mrs Saori. He will have to go out of his way to come up with a thrilling scenario for, more than a simple bogus kidnap sham, our new-found criminal must create so perfect an illusion to meet his client's demands that he will go as far as tying up and torturing his victim. The film may well remind us of a Mission Impossible episode and ingenuity to pull himself out of the mess he created remains to be seen.
